Vacancies at Thrums Veterinary Practice

We think we have a great work/life balance which is why we retain staff. Many have worked for Thrums for nearly 20 years. We all have lives and families outwith work and maintaining this good balance is an essential aspect of the Thrums ethos.

We have an exciting opportunity for a small animal veterinary surgeon to join our vibrant, happy and proudly independent practice. Thrums Veterinary Group has a long history in Angus and east Perthshire and we have practices in Kirriemuir, Forfar, Blairgowrie and Scone. Depending on circumstances, we can be flexible with where you fit in in the practice team.

The position is ideally suited to somebody who has mastered their basic skills, but is looking for an environment to develop autonomy, whilst being part of a supportive and friendly team.

Naturally, our premises are spacious and well equipped with all the kit you would expect at a modern veterinary practice. In recent years we have added laparoscopic surgery to the list of services we can offer our clients.

Whilst the kit that a vet practice has is important, it’s the people that really make it work, and at Thrums the happiness of our team is paramount. We believe in leading a caring culture, where everyone looks out for each other and supports mutual development. We also believe in tea breaks and an hour for lunch!

Thrums are proud to offer our own out-of-hours service to our clients which is provided by our team of mixed vets. In your small animal only role you will not be on the on-call rota, however a limited amount of in-patient care may be required. Some evenings and Saturday mornings will also be involved in the job role.

Angus and Perthshire are beautiful counties to live in. Many of us came for the job and stayed for everything the area has to offer. The towns of Perth and Dundee are just as accessible as the trails of the Angus glens, the peaks of the Cairngorm mountains and the surf of the coastline.

We believe in a healthy work-life balance and having enough time off to enjoy the fabulous surrounding area and as such offer up to a fantastic 29 days annual leave, depending on working hours.

The right candidate will be rewarded with the support to pursue a career they aspire to, a competitive salary, RCVS, VDS and society fees paid and extensive CPD allowance. Pursuit of a relevant post graduate certificate would be actively encouraged. We are a proud member of XL Vets which gives our team access to a fantastic support network of like-minded professionals and continuing education.

Not every practice is the same in Perthshire and we are proud to say that we go the extra mile for our clients, patients and each other. Every member of our team believes that HOW we do things is just as important as what we do.
