Careers at Thrums
We want our team members to be happy and enjoy their work.
We all have lives and families outside work, and it’s important to maintain a good work/life balance, particularly when you’re in such a beautiful location.
We want Thrums Vets to continue to be at the forefront of veterinary care in Scotland, so we encourage all our team members to continue their professional development, ensuring they receive the training and support they need to fulfil their personal goals throughout their careers.
Which is why we retain team members. Many of our team have been with Thrums for nearly 20 years. We’re an integral part of the local community and have been for generations; getting to know our clients and their animals is an important part of delivering first-rate service.
If you’d like to know more about working at Thrums, drop us an email, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re recognised as a Great Workplace by the BVA
We are very proud to have been awarded silver accreditation under the BVA Great Workplaces scheme.
We were particularly commended for our commitment to supporting our team’s wellbeing, flexible working arrangements and creating a positive and inclusive culture.
It was reported that “colleagues consistently talk about a positive and inclusive culture where care is evident, and all colleagues feel supported”.
As well as this, the report found that psychological wellbeing “is a particular area of strength, due to numerous proactive supportive mechanisms in place” and that “the group have a very positive approach to learning in the workplace”.
We intend on using the report to continue to improve – both in the areas raised as opportunities and in continuing to excel at the things our team appreciates.
We hope that as new colleagues join our team they can help us to continue to grow our culture, and we’re committed to supporting development and growth in whatever way we can.

We have launched an initiative to attract future nurses
We have launched a industry first two-day course that will run at various points during the year and will give 15 to 17 year olds an insight into what it takes to be a veterinary nurse and what the role entails.
The first course ran in May, to coincide with Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month (VNAM), and was fully subscribed, with the next one planned for either June or July. Participants will shadow our nurses at in Kirriemuir and try their hand at a wide range of tasks including learning how to carry out clinical examinations, suturing and bandaging, as well as fluid therapy, patient care, radiography positioning and laboratory work.
