We are delighted to open applications for our Foundations of Mixed Practice New Graduate programme. We are a proudly independent, genuinely mixed, moderate sized practice and as such we believe we can offer something truly unique to the recently graduated vet, taking their first steps into exploring their new career.

We are seeking a veterinary graduate enthusiastic about mixed practice, who wants to explore their potential and who fits with our mission of nurturing a happy, supportive place of work. The programme is open to applications to any veterinary graduates with less than a years experience, and will be a fixed term contract for 12 months duration. Whilst a permanent role is not guaranteed at the end of the year, opportunities should arise for truly excellent candidates.

During the year you will get to experience all aspects of mixed practice. You will work alongside our vets on new tasks to gain knowledge and skills, however the post is ideally suited to a candidate who has the desire to develop the confidence to work autonomously and independently early in their career and you will be supported to achieve this.

Our practice roughly splits into 50% SA, 40% FA (mostly beef and sheep) and 10% EQ. We provide our own out of hours service for all of our clients and you will have the opportunity to gain experience in emergency care alongside one of our vets, so you won’t be alone!  This will be on a rota of one night per fortnight and one weekend in six, with time off in lieu.

We have a large, supportive, friendly team, but during your year you will be assigned a VetGDP trained mentor, who will support you through the challenges and the highs and lows of practice. As well as regular informal catch-ups, you will have more formal progress discussions at 3, 6 and 12 months.

In addition, you will get to take advantage of the superb XL Vets New Graduate Development Programme – up to 16 days CPD and networking tailored to the newly graduated vet. More information can be found here (www.xlvets.co.uk/graduate-development).

The successful candidate will also be supported with a good salary, 28 days holiday, local accommodation, a vehicle and RCVS, VDS and BVA fees paid for.

We have practices in Kirriemuir, Blairgowrie, Scone and Forfar and cover all of Angus and much of eastern Perthshire. This is a beautiful part of the world where many of us have chosen to settle, with endless outdoor activities from the coast to the mountains on our doorstep but being very close to the cities of Dundee and Perth, with Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen not much further away.

The closing date for applications is 31/01/2024. Following the closing date, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to spend some time seeing practice with us before the successful candidate is selected in spring 2022. The job roles will commence on 05/08/2024.

Applications with a covering letter and CV should be made to ed@thrumsvet.co.uk before 31/01/2024.
