Thrums Vets

Scotlands Largest Independet Vet Practice

Do you thrive in a busy, people-focused role where no two days are the same? Do you enjoy being the friendly, reliable first point of contact for clients while also supporting a close-knit team? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We are a community-focused veterinary practice that takes pride in providing compassionate care to pets and building lasting relationships with their families. Our team is dedicated, collaborative, and passionate—not only about animal health but also about creating a positive, supportive workplace culture.

As our Receptionist, you’ll be at the heart of the practice, ensuring that clients and their pets feel welcome and supported from the moment they arrive. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Greeting clients and pets with warmth and professionalism.
  • Handling telephone and email enquiries, booking appointments, and managing diaries.
  • Processing payments, insurance claims, and maintaining accurate client records.
  • Handing over prescribed medications to clients, ensuring instructions are clear and understood.
  • Discussing and explaining practice health plans to help clients make informed decisions about their pets’ care.
  • Supporting clients through emotional and sometimes difficult moments, showing empathy and patience.
  • Dealing sensitively and professionally with upset clients.
  • Supporting the clinical team by keeping the reception area organised and efficient.
  • Assisting with stock management and general administrative tasks.
  • Acting as a bridge between clients and the veterinary team to ensure clear communication and excellent service.

We know the right person will bring not only strong administrative skills but also the right attitude and values. You will be:

  • Friendly, approachable, and empathetic—able to put nervous clients (and pets!) at ease.
  • A team player who values collaboration and supports colleagues, no matter how busy things get.
  • Organised, adaptable, and calm under pressure, with great attention to detail.
  • Confident in communicating with a wide range of people, both in person and over the phone.
  • Able to remain sensitive and professional when discussing treatments, plans, or emotional situations with clients.
  • Someone who takes pride in contributing to both the workplace community and the wider local community.

Why should you apply:

  • Be part of a practice where teamwork, respect, and kindness are just as important as professional skills.
  • Work in an environment where your ideas and input are valued.
  • Join a team that supports each other, celebrates successes, and works together to provide the very best care for our clients and their pets.
  • Get involved in community initiatives—we believe in giving back and making a positive impact locally.

If you’re looking for more than just a job—if you want to be part of a team that feels like a family and a practice that cares about its people as much as its patients—then we’d love to welcome you
