We know that a trip to the vet isn’t always a stress-free experience for your cat. Cats are sensitive to unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells, and most would far rather be at home. That’s something our team thinks about every single day.
That’s why we’re proud to hold silver accreditation as an ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic, awarded by the International Society of Feline Medicine. It’s an internationally recognised standard that tells you we’ve met rigorous criteria to make your cat’s visit as calm and comfortable as possible.

What does this mean for your cat?
Achieving silver accreditation means we’ve demonstrated, across our whole team, that we understand the unique needs of cats and have made real, practical changes to the way we work. From the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave, everything is considered with your cat in mind.
Every member of our team, from receptionists to vets, plays a role in making your cat’s visit better.

The right care, every time

Whether your cat is coming in for a routine check-up, a vaccination or something more involved, you can trust that they’ll be cared for in an environment designed with them in mind.
Cat Friendly Clinic FAQs – Thrums Vets in Angus and Perthshire
Cats experience the world very differently to dogs, and a standard veterinary environment, with its unfamiliar smells, sounds and other animals, can be genuinely overwhelming for them. As an ISFM Silver Cat Friendly Clinic, we’ve made real, practical changes to address that.
Separate quiet spaces away from dogs, calming pheromone products, specialist feline equipment and a team trained in gentle, low-stress handling all add up to a better experience for your cat, and for you.
Cats are experts at hiding stress. Unlike dogs, they tend to go quiet and still rather than show obvious signs of anxiety, which makes it easy to assume they’re coping fine.
Signs to look out for include a tucked tail, flattened ears, wide eyes or simply freezing in place. Our team is trained to spot these subtle cues and adapt how they approach and handle your cat accordingly.
Yes. Whether your cat is coming in for a vaccination, a health check or something more involved, the same approach applies every time. And if you’re a Practice Plan member, your routine visits are already covered, with unlimited consultations included as standard. It’s one less thing to worry about and means you can bring your cat in as soon as you notice something, without worrying about the cost of an appointment.
Not at all. Our cat friendly accreditation is simply about the standard of care and environment we provide. There’s no additional charge for it. If anything, joining our Practice Plan is the best way to make sure you’re never paying more than you need to, with routine care, vaccinations and unlimited consultations all included from £16 a month.
Not necessarily, as it depends on who is available on the day. However, our cat advocate’s role is to make sure the whole team is trained and working to the same high standard, so your cat will always be in good hands. If you’d like to speak to your branch’s cat advocate specifically, just let us know when you book and we’ll do our best to accommodate that.
