Let’s talk about your dog

📅 31 Aug · 28 Sep · 26 Oct · 23 Nov
⌚ 7.30pm to 9pm, doors open from 7.15pm 📍 Thrums Vets Kirriemuir

Most of us have been there. The dog who launches at every visitor, the puppy who thinks hands are chew toys, the walk that turns into a tug of war.

None of it means you have a bad dog. These are normal behaviours and there is usually a straightforward way to change them once you understand what’s driving it.

Mary is giving four evening talks, each one on a single problem. That means there’s time to get into the detail and time for your questions, rather than skimming the surface of everything at once.

Meet Mary – our certified behaviourist

Our dog behaviour service is led by Mary Howat, who many of you may recognise from our Blairgowrie team!

Mary started working with Thrums in 2003, and has progressed to qualify as a Certified Canine Behaviourist and Certified Elite Fear Free Trainer. She also runs her own dog behaviour and training consultancy, K9INTUITION, taking veterinary referrals, behaviour consultations, one to one sessions with puppies and their owners and also providing advice for clients on choosing a puppy and before they have brought their puppy home.

The talks

  • Monday 31 August – jumping up
  • Monday 28 September – puppy biting
  • Monday 26 October – pulling on the lead
  • Monday 23 November – impulse control

Every talk runs the same way. Mary will talk through why the behaviour happens in the first place, what you can do to stop it becoming a habit, and how to start turning it around. There’s always time for your questions at the end, so bring them along.

A few things before you come along

As much as we’d love to meet them, these evenings are for owners rather than dogs, so your four legged friend can have the night off. You’ll head home with plenty to try out with them.

There’s lots of free parking all around the building and no steps to worry about on the way in. We’ll have hot and cold drinks waiting for you, so come along, get comfy and settle in.

The talks are free, and there’s no pressure to give anything. If you’d like to pop a donation in on the night, every penny goes to Mission Christmas, our charity for 2026.
