We have a long history of supporting Student EMS Placements requirements and helping achieve the best possible start to their career. As the largest independent vet group in Scotland, and with a genuine mix of small animal, farm and equine work we are uniquely placed to offer students a hugely valuable experience.
We welcome any students who have a genuine interest in a career in mixed practice and we can accommodate students in third, fourth or final year of vet school, all year round. On your first visit to the practice we can book you for a maximum of two weeks, but return visits can be booked for up to four weeks at a time.
We have accommodation on-site in both our Kirriemuir and Blairgowrie branches, meaning there’s no need for you to sort your own accommodation. We have a large team of enthusiastic vets who are all keen to teach and mentor the next generation, and value having enthusiastic students working alongside them. Where appropriate we try to give as much “hands on” experience as possible.
Make the most of your Extra Mural Studies
As we are a genuinely mixed practice we can offer a tailored experience for you. Small animal work is busy all year round and you will have the opportunity to see consultations, collaborate in working-up medical cases, care for in-patients and assist with operations (including laparoscopic surgery). Equine work occurs all year round but tends to be busier during the summer months. Our farm work is largely seasonal – we are busy in the spring with new life arriving and busy during the autumn and winter with the bulk of the routine work.
Each year we open positions for new graduate vets on our bespoke programme designed to give the best possible start to new vets in their careers. Coming and spending time with us as a student is the perfect way to experience the practice prior to considering for applying for one of these highly sought-after roles.
